Parenting the Krishna Way

Krishna our Spiritual Guru, motivator, role model and strategist.

Krishna, reminds Arjun of his duties and karma and the same applies to us as parents to teach kids what is karma? How karma can be performed in spite of being de-attached to them.

He was an orator, communicator and great knack of dealing with people.

1.     No matter how difficult the situations are – never give up on your hobbies and passion. Teach kids that the situations and circumstances in life are going to be difficult and sometimes beyond control still have kept the passion and hobby alive. This love for your passion and hobby will boost your energy level. Krishnaji never gives up on his deepest passion, his flute. He, he even played flute during the times of war. That was the stress buster for him and that flute has made him serene and strong.

The life of Krishna teaches us to remain calm and composed irrespective of the number of unpleasant situations throughout his life Krishna always stayed calm and composed. These unpleasant situations are great teachers. True life lessons can be learned from them.

3.     Take one day at a time – teach kids to be present at the present times. Krishna Ji always teach us to live in the moment. Kids should also be taught not to worry about the future even if something worst is going to happen tomorrow, be prepared for the same. It’s always easy to be bogged down by challenges in life but being mindful and being present in the present the upcoming worst can be made much simpler.

6.     Respect and love for friends irrespective of their caste, creed or social or financial status. For being a friend one should befriend first. Friendship does not depend on one’s caste or financial status. The friendship of Krishna and Sudhama teaches that lifelong friendships are built upon respect and love.

7.     We can teach kids to be duty-bound irrespective of circumstances. When we freely and diligently fulfill our duties no one will ever forget us.

8.     Teach kids to respect elders by being a role model itself. Krishna’s life is best example of this. At the very young age of 12, Krishna fought with Kansa and killed him. He always stood by his parents. As a parent, we should make them understand the sacrifices involved in the day to day life.

9.     The Krishna was an Astute strategist, through his life and Holy Geeta we can teach kids to be aware of their situations and be practical. His life presents the live and practical example of out of box thinking.

10. Walk the path of Dharma, the live examples of the same through Krishna’s life, when he covers the Draupadi with a continuous saree when she was getting stripped off by Dushashan. We should teach kids to do the right thing, to follow the path of dharma even if it is hard.

11.  Sharing is the way to live- the life of Krishna teaches us to share as a kid he uses to share Makhan with his friends and later in life he was the one who shared the knowledge of life, how to lead life and set an example to follow in form of Holy Geeta.

12. We can teach kids to stick to goals – The life should be lead on principles and values and one should set goals. Through our his life Krishna was stick to his goals. He worked for –

Paritrayana Sadhunam: Welfare for Good

Vinashaya Dushkritam: Destroy Evil (thoughts)

The values and goals make the person what he or she is. It is of utmost importance to have the right values and principles in life and to follow them and achieve big goals of life. Through short stories from the life of Krishna, all these values can be imbibed in the kids.
